How to Select Inkjet Photo Paper
There is usually a certain printing paper for every image and every situation. The choice of printer and the paper influences the media you can print on and the control you have over the printing process. Navigating a path through the wide diversity of inkjet photo paper can be a difficult task. It is, therefore, essential to understand the key criteria that match a particular image to a specific paper that becomes more straightforward. Some of the criteria that can be considered are as follows:
Paper thickness
Paper weight is usually specified in grams per square metre (gsm) and its thickness in millimeters (mm). Though there's no accurate correlation between these measurements, many manufacturers use gsm while others use mm. Heavier papers have more substantial and tactile feel for higher quality while lighter papers can be easily bound into books.
Paper Surface
There are various types of paper surfaces available. Right from high gloss through to semi-gloss, lustre, pearl and satin to smooth matte and more. There are fine art papers and metallic papers with special surfaces also available.
